Some of the original features of the building like the façade wood paneling on the walls and skirting were carefully preserved restored and given a new lease on life while the floor plan of both the lower living level and the top bedroom level were considerably altered.

It is the landscape the views on offer and the neighborhood that often define the silhouette of the house and the balance between privacy and ‘openness’ when it comes to design. Nestled in Kibbutz Yehiam Israel tends to veer more towards the latter with its unique design that blurs the conventional boundaries between the interior and the world outside.

Designed by SO Architecture it is two large boxes that make up the overall design of the residence with the one on the ground providing partial support for the second box above. A steel frame also provides additional support creating an open living area that contains the kitchen and dining room.

The most impressive and distinct feature of this luxurious residence is undoubtedly its front-to-back two-story entrance foyer and stairway. If the sheer grandeur of the entry room along with the playfulness of the pivoting wood door make the entrance more special then it is a series of sliding glass doors that bring in natural light and transform the interior into a cheerful setting. A series of terraces and walkways further strengthens this bond between the interior and the outdoors as the transition from the living room to the outdoor hangout is almost seamless.

Keeping away from excess it is this minimal approach that defines the color scheme and the décor choices on the inside as well. An open living space spacious kitchen and light-filled dining room make up the new ‘social zone’ that is filled with ample natural light and flows into the deck outside.
